Privacy Policy
Effective 3 November 2026
This policy explains how ONLIST TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares personal information when you visit openwar.app, play OpenWar, or use related services such as support, online play, accounts and purchases (together, the “Services”). Some sections apply only when you use a particular feature; they say so.
The short version
- The Windows version of OpenWar has no account. Each time it starts, it asks our website for the latest version number.
- We collect what we need to run, protect and improve the Services, and to meet our legal obligations.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
- You can ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
When you contact support, create an account or profile, choose a player name, report another player, or take part in a test, survey or event, we collect what you provide: for example your email address, player name, messages and any files you send.
Information collected automatically
- Device and technical information: IP address, device type, operating system and version, graphics hardware, language and region settings, and the version of the game you are running.
- Version and integrity checks: the request the game makes when it starts, including a random one-time code, and checks that help us detect modified or unauthorised copies.
- Gameplay and match information: when you use online features, information needed to run and verify matches, such as matches played, results, settings, in-game actions and replays.
- Diagnostics: crash reports, error logs and performance information, when you choose to send them or when automatic reporting is turned on.
- In-game communications: chat messages and player reports, when those features are available.
- Website logs: our hosting provider records standard request information (IP address, time, page requested, browser type). This website uses no cookies or third-party trackers. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
The game engine we use, Unity, may send Unity Technologies anonymous technical information about your device, such as the graphics card and operating system.
Information from other sources
- Platforms and stores (for example Steam, Epic Games Store, Apple, Google or Microsoft), when you play through them or link an account: your platform user ID, display name, and confirmation of purchases and entitlements. We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Service providers that help us run the Services, such as hosting, crash reporting and anti-cheat providers.
- Other players, for example when they report a match or a message.
2. How we use information
- To provide, operate and update the Services, including checking that you have the latest version.
- To keep the Services secure and fair: preventing and detecting cheating, fraud, abuse and unauthorised copies.
- To run online features such as matchmaking, rankings and replays, when available.
- To process purchases and grant what you have bought.
- To provide support and send you service messages. We send marketing only where you have agreed to it or the law allows it, and you can opt out at any time.
- To understand how the Services are used, fix problems, balance gameplay and develop new features, using aggregated or de-identified information where we can.
- To comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our terms.
- For any other purpose we describe to you when we collect the information, or with your consent.
3. Legal bases
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract: to provide the Services you ask for.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the Services secure and fair, prevent fraud, and understand and improve the Services. We weigh these interests against your rights.
- Consent: where the law requires it, for example for optional cookies or marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to process or keep information.
4. How we share information
- Service providers who process information for us under contract, for example hosting and content delivery (Cloudflare), game engine services (Unity Technologies), and providers of support, analytics, crash reporting and anti-cheat.
- Platforms and stores you use to get or play the game, as needed to deliver purchases and platform features.
- Other players: your player name, profile, match results and messages, when you use features that show them.
- For legal and safety reasons: when we believe disclosure is needed to comply with the law or to protect the rights, property or safety of our players, the public or us.
- Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
- With your consent or at your direction.
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under California law.
5. International transfers
We are based in Hong Kong and our service providers operate in several countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. When we transfer information from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we use safeguards recognised by law, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy: for example, while your account is active, for as long as needed to resolve disputes and prevent abuse, or as long as the law requires. Website and version-check logs are kept for a short period for security and operations. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it de-identified.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of information sent to us.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, to ask us to delete or correct it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email privacy@openwar.app. We may need to verify your identity before we act, and we will answer within the time the law requires. You can stop all collection by the game at any time by uninstalling it.
9. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, or a higher age where your country requires it. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Other services
Platforms, stores and websites that the Services link to or run on, such as Steam or app stores, have their own privacy policies. This policy doesn’t cover how they handle your information.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services change. We will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will tell you through the Services or on this website before it takes effect.
